What Are Dental Implants?

by

Posted in: Dental Implants, New Jersey

PatientFYI: The most common type of tooth implant (dental implant) that is placed today is the “endosseous root form implant.” These objects are cylindrical or screw shaped devices that are positioned into a person’s jawbone. In essence, a dental implant acts as an “artificial root” on top of which a dental crown or one end of dental bridgework can be secured. The term “endosseous” refers to the fact that the implant is embedded in the jawbone and penetrates through the gum tissue. The term “root form” refers to the fact that this type of implant is somewhat similar in shape as the root of a natural tooth. (This isn’t precisely accurate in the sense that some teeth have multiple roots.)

Root form endosseous tooth implants are also described as “osseointegrated (osteointegrated) implants.” The term osseointegration refers to the fact that there is a direct fixed connection between the dental implant and living bone.

Great explanation. I have a blog all about Dental Implants. Have a look for more information!

Did you know that dental implants have been around for as long as 1,300 years? Amazing! Although titanium was only discovered in the 1950s. This is what dental implants are made of today.

Calli says:

What is the difference in a ‘dental implant’ and a inserting a post into a tooth space where a root canal has been done and glueing a porcelain tooth to it? When a ‘post’ is inserted and a permanent crown placed and it comes off 4 times in less than 5 months what are possible causes of the procedure failure? Adult patient compliant with night guard use for bruxism, corrected x 1 year now. Also in the event of procedure failure..ie crown not staying on..what is the likelyhood of re-doing entire procedure succeeding?

Great details about dental implants. Dental implants are actually designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. That’s the good thing about dental implant.

Make your own life time more easy take the business loans and all you want.

very informative article, Thanks for sharing. Now, people who are wanting to get dental implants will have more ideas about it.
