California Dental Association: Table Clinics – fascinating

by

Posted in: Advanced Dental Technologies, California - Orange County, Dental Practice Management Companies, The Best Dentists In Your State

I happened to walk by the Table Clinics at the recently concluded California Dental Association (CDA) conference in Anaheim, CA and was amazed by the depth of research high-school, college and dental students had done and reported on.There was a lot of work on dental materials and new techniques.

Dr. Ramesh Gowda of Golden State Dental, a PatientFYI-Verified (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB6eNvxU0GU) dentist was one of the judges of the panels and was explaining to me how kids at a young age get involved in research and public awareness.

Of all the high-school level entries, I think half dealt with tattoos and piercings!

Dr. Guy Mangia: Comprehensive Dental Examination is a service we provide for all new patients and for our adult patients of record every 2 years. Similar to a complete medical examination with your physician, this examination  process is considered the current Standard of Care with the American Dental Association.  During this examination we are able to document and compare the findings that are significant to your oral health.  Being able to compare these findings at a two year interval allows us to detect changes in your dental health that may be subtle to the human eye, resulting in early detection and correction of oral problems.  Of course, we will continue to provide updated examinations at the time of your  periodontal maintenance visit in between your comprehensive dental evaluations.

The Comprehensive Examination and Evaluation consists of six areas of your oral health: read more…

What Are Dental Implants?

by

Posted in: Dental Implants, New Jersey

PatientFYI: The most common type of tooth implant (dental implant) that is placed today is the “endosseous root form implant.” These objects are cylindrical or screw shaped devices that are positioned into a person’s jawbone. In essence, a dental implant acts as an “artificial root” on top of which a dental crown or one end of dental bridgework can be secured. read more…

Children More Likely To Visit The Dentist If Their Parents Do Too

by

Posted in: Cavity Detection, Children's Services, Dentist Reviews & Ratings, How To Find The Best Dentist For You, New Jersey, Oral Cancer Screening, Patient Questions, Patient Reviews, Patient-Doctor Communication, Preventive Care

PatientFYI: Whether or not children receive regular dental care is strongly associated with their parents’ history of seeking dental care. A new report to appear in the journal Pediatrics, which has been released online, is the first to analyze the relationship between parents’ and children’s’ dental visits in a nationally representative sample.

“When parents don’t see the dentist, their children are much less likely to see the dentist,” says Inyang Isong, MD, MPH, of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Center for Child and Adolescent Health Policy, the study’s lead author. “It looks like strategies to promote oral health should focus on the whole family.” The result of this study is clear. To set the pattern of good dental care for their children, parents need to set the example of regular dental care for themselves. Parents, you’re children are watching!

Veneers: Look Younger With a New Smile

by

Posted in: California - Los Angeles

Here at Dr. Mangia’s office we understand the importance of health as well as cosmetics. Let’s face it, appearance does matter and sometimes a small change can go a long way. Improving your smile can be just the small change you need and veneers are a great way to go. They close gaps between teeth, whiten your smile, and give some length to worn teeth due to grinding. Veneers don’t stain, wear down and can improve your appearance instantly and give you some extra self-confidence. They are a perfect way to take years off your appearance.

Itero Digital Impression System: Gooey Dental Impressions Gone Digital!!!

by

Posted in: Dental Crowns & Bridges, Dental Implants, Digital Impressions, Pennsylvania, Veneers

Dr. Tau on Digital Impressions: We all know that no one actually wants to go to the dentist, and some people downright dread it. Patients assume that all dental procedures are going to be uncomfortable or even painful. In an effort to make going to see the dentist a more pleasant experience, many dental offices look more like health spas. Gone are the horrible sounds and smells, replaced by the sound of rock fountains, massage chairs, paraffin wax treatments, iPods and most importantly virtually painless dentistry. Dentists are embracing new technology that greatly enhances the patient experience and eases anxiety about dental treatments. Laser scanners allow your dentist to find decay that normally can’t be seen or felt until they are much bigger. Computerized anesthesia machines allow only the tooth being treated to be numb instead of your entire face. And now a common dental procedure known as a dental impression has an amazing new technology behind it.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea: What you need to know

by

Posted in: New Jersey, Sleep Apnea

Central Jersey Dental on Snoring: Often snoring is dismissed as an annoyance, but it can be a sign of a very serious condition known as obstructive sleep apnea. Snoring is caused by a blocked airway. The tongue falls backward during sleep and can fully or partially block the airway. The body then struggles to obtain air, and this causes the vibration we call snoring. Much of the time the body will continue to get just enough air so there will be very little harm. However, this condition is one of the signs that sleep apnea could be right around the corner.
