Is Tooth Bleaching For You?

Dr. David Grayson: Should you go through the trouble of tooth bleaching? You may think that you do not need this process of tooth whitening. After all, it can be difficult for you to see how yellow and aged your teeth have become in recent years.

Even when you look up close in the mirror, you may not see all of the stains due to smoking, drinking certain beverages and just plain age. However, you can be sure that others see this. Once you have your teeth whitened, you will say to yourself that you should have done this sooner! It can make all of the difference in the world to have your teeth whitened; yet it is neither a difficult nor a costly project when you go to a dentist who practices cosmetic dentistry. A trained cosmetic dentist can show you the shade your teeth are now, and then give you a good idea as to what shade they can be lightened to.

Tooth bleaching is a process where the enamel of the teeth is bleached with a certain chemical. This is safe to do, does not harm healthy teeth, and is done in the office of a dentist as part of a cosmetic dentistry process. In almost all cases, the process only takes one time to get the teeth whitened. Rarely,, it may take a few times before the stains are removed and the teeth are once again white and bright. A dentist who is well trained in cosmetic dentistry can help you determine how many treatments that you need for this process.

There are other methods of tooth bleaching and tooth whitening. Tooth bleaching is by far the most affordable and works very well. There is also bonding of the teeth and the option of getting porcelain veneers on the teeth. These porcelain veneers are overlays that go over your teeth to make them look like brand new, and very white, teeth. However, they can be more costly than just tooth whitening. If you have severe damage to your teeth, or want to make sure that they look perfect, you can opt for porcelain veneers.

Your smile is something that everyone notices about you. It does not pay to go through life with a smile that you are ashamed to let others see. You can have a bright, white smile if you talk to your cosmetic dentist about options that are available to help you improve your smile. These include tooth bleaching as well as porcelain veneers for your teeth. Once you get your teeth as white and bright as they can be, you will no longer hide your smile, but will proudly display it!
